Tignes is located at the base of the La Grande Monte glacier and is connected to Val de Isere.   The resort is known for its long ski season that traditionally runs from September through May.

The resort is divided into four areas.  However, the resort is known for the wide open terrain that the La Grande Monte glacier has to offer.  The other three areas are La Tovière-Lavachet, Palet-Aiguille, and Percée-Palafourt that provide excellent terrain for intermediate skiers.

Lodging can be found in one of four villages at the base of the glacier. The villages are Val Claret, Le Lac, Les Boisses and Les Breveries. There arey onl about 20 hotels, thus many tourists choose to stay at self-catering apartments.
